The Museum of Slovak National Councils at Myjava is a specialized organizational unit of the Slovak National Museum in Bratislava. It was open in 1968 on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the 1st Slovak National Council (SNC) which, during the revolutionary years of 1848-49, held its first session precisely at Myjava - in the house of the widow Anna Kolenyova. The house has been reconstructed into a new pavilion according to projects by Ing. Arch. M. Kusy. This gave rise to an interesting symbiosis of an old an a new architecture. The museum of the SNC helps to document the history of the SNC as the supreme representative of the legislative and constitutuional authority.
The exhibition sector of Mrs. Kolenyova's House is furnished with the original furniture and ethnographic material - kitchen, pantry, vestibule, a girls' room and a living room with the original table at which the SNC sat in September 1848. Furthermore, there is here a room with showcases of costumes and textiles from that period.
The SNC exhibition covers practically 160 years from the history of the Slovak nation, its struggles and fights for recognition of its independence, its right to self-determination and its own sovereignty. The collection fund is related to the various SNCs, but also their personalities, as also those of the regions below Bradlo and Javorina.
The museum is a branch of the Slovak National Museum. It was opened in 1990 in a house where M.R. Stefanik was born - the former evangelic church. The museum through its exposition in six rooms shows Stefanik his life, privacy and his hobby, and of course his military, diplomatic, and political activities.
